How was Club Kristalia founded?
History tells us that Kristalia was founded in 1994 by young entrepreneurs of Friuli who shared two great passions: design and jazz. As you can see, jazz is part of Kristalia’s DNA. In 2015, we moved to new premises and immediately decided to create a space for events. For us, opening Club Kristalia in 2016 was a natural consequence. We have invented nothing new. Just think of the facilities run by the Olivetti cultural centre.
But why jazz?
Well, some people say that the word “jazz” appeared in print for the first time in an article of 6 March 1913 in the “The Bulletin” of San Francisco in the expression “ragtime and jazz”, referring to the attitude of a baseball team to show that it had spirit and enthusiasm.
Then there are references to the expression “jazz it up, jazz ‘em up”, meaning “adding a bit of spirit, a little more rhythm,” etc.
Kristalia was founded based on the idea of creating products with spirit.
What do you expect from the performances?
We like to imagine that the creative power released at live events will be felt in the atmosphere and absorbed by all of us through our skin.
It is said that cows produce better milk when listening to classical music. What will happen when a furniture company listens to music?
What type of spectator attends club events?
Jazz was born as popular yet refined music and with this concept we want the club to be open to everyone.
Will the club only host musical events?
Free jazz is a type of free, entirely unconventional music so we want it to be a club open to a variety of artistic initiatives.
Can we expect a club in the style of New Orleans, New York, Washington, Chicago or a more European one?
We are aware of the fact that the club is located in the province of Pordenone, in an industrial area, but we don’t intend to transform the area into ‘our’ Fifty-second Street.
We also want to move away from the idea of an underground Jazz Club in a cramped place. The space is industrial and expresses much about us, therefore we like to think that it is something attractive, welcoming and, in a certain sense, also different. But I want to be brief so come and see it for yourselves!
Kristalia is renowned for creating design projects with a technological connotation. Can we find the same connotation at the club?
We will try to exploit all the opportunities that technology offers us, for example, by providing live streaming of events.
How can I keep up to date on events at the club?
We recommend subscribing to our newsletter and visiting our website and social media pages.
At this point, do you have a dream?
Yes, that one day an artist will release an album with the suffix “live at Club Kristalia”.
